First Place - 28 Points

the bagpiper

Christopher Pickslay
(2,6,10) = 28 pts
While reading again and again, I listen to "Amazing Grace" from far away.
Original, thought-provoking, and mournful. Well done!
Second Place - 23 Points
solstice
the stone goose
fledged with snow
Earl R. Keener
(1,5,10) = 23 pts
A strong atmospheric haiku that resonates. The author has resisted
the urge to report on actual geese; and we have in our mind's eye a
constant reminder of the potential freedom of a young goose captured
in stone.
Third Place – 21 Points
migrating geese
the boy throws one more

Petar Tchouhov
(0,6,9) = 21 pts
Two strong images of movement, and youth and freedom. Good use of
juxtaposition.
Nice echoes in this.
There seems to be no direction connection between the fragment and
the phrase, yet on a subconscious level, this resonates with me.
Fourth Place - 18 Points

A good use of juxtaposition, I really like this haiku!
Fifth Place - 16 Points
departing geese . . .
women shaking walnuts
from the walnut trees
Michael McClintock
(2,4,2) = 16 pts
I enjoyed this haiku. Yet I wish the author hadn't repeated about
walnuts in the last line, as the image was very clear. If the second
use of walnuts was removed, this would be worth submitting to a haiku
magazine.

snow in our eyes

Bill Pauly
(0,2,2) = 6 pts
Good use of an extra sense, that of "snow in our eyes". The author
has also resisted the urge of using "vees" of geese, and has instead
concentrated on the "broken patterns" of flight.

Victor P. Gendrano
(0,1,4) = 6 pts
A poignant haiku. I wonder if the first pronoun is needed, after all
we know it's a "he"? I also wonder if it should be "heading into
sunset" which I feel would be fine without the use of a definite
article? Despite my criticisms, I enjoyed this haiku, and it makes
good use of making us carry on beyond the text.

This haiku impresses by the attention the author gives to the kigo

I like the use of 'inscribe', which seems to make this familiar
haiku image feel brand new.
